What a lot we have to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, and everyday. It is hard to believe that just over a year ago, November 19, 2008, Les came home after spending 6 months in four different hospitals.
We are thankful for God for being with Les during that accident, it is stillhard to believe he made it through that, and we know He is the only reason.
We are thankful for the emergency responders who came to Les's aid that day,for comforting him and safely transporting him to the hospital. Including Chris and Jenny for staying there by his side and holding his hand and talking to him.
We are thankful for the staff who continued to care for Les. We are especially thankful for his Angels at MCR, Chris, Laura, Trin, Segrid, Kevin, Joel, Stacey and many others. They kept us going, went above and beyond their call of duty.We are so blessed to have them in our lives and can't wait to get together next week!
We are thankful for April and her staff at NCRH, they saved Les by taking him in regardless of his lack of insurance. Les's caregivers there have become lifelong friends and we will never forget them!
We are thankful for Les having the opportunity to go to Craig. He was fortunate to have access to their rehabilitation and amazing staff, Dr. Hsu, Marz, Brooke, Apple, Pam, Emily, Toby, Kim, KL, Katie and all of the other amazing people to help Les and I while he was there. We met some amazing people at Craig and have lifelong friends, Mont, Martha and Julian will forever be in our hearts, Chad, Sharmaine and little Samantha always make us smile, Trav and Jill, Ryan, and so many more.
We are forever thankful for all of the fans and friends who came out from those first hours after the accident to show their love, encouragement and support of Les. The overwhelming donations, messages, cards and gifts show what a man Les is and what a great community we live in. The donations have given Les the peace of mind about the overwhelming medical bills that pour in. They gave Les the wonderful opportunity to continue rehab through his therapy and working out, it has proven to work, as he has gained strength, mobility and movement.The messages, cards and pictures have given Les the encouragement and courage to keep going everyday, to continue to try his hardest and do his best. Les is also thankful for the many speaking opportunities he has had, he hopes that each time he talks to a group of people or students that his story makes adifference for at least one person there.
We are thankful for friends and family. I am thankful for Linda and Nicole for waiting there with me through the hours of the unknown immediately following the accident. I am thankful for my brother and mom being there with me too. We are thankful for Tyler jumping at starting the fundraising and website and keeping all of that up over the past year and a half regardless of how muchwork it is. Thankful for each of his teammates and everybody involved in the team who sat there in that waiting room showing their love for their friend. We are thankful for the support they have continued to show over the past year and a half, thankful that he is still part of that team. Thankful for all of the love that our families give us each and everyday.
We are so thankful for everyday things in our life. Thankful that our home was accessible to Les when he got home from the hospital, thankful for Bodi, being the best companion, thankful for having a van that Les is able to use to get around. Thankful for SCI and the amazing people we have met through it.
We hope that everybody has something and someone to be thankful for today. We sure do! Thank you, thank you, thank you.
